In another robbery bid involving an auto rickshaw driver, a sports reporter with a television channel was stabbed on Saturday night.

Saurabh Mishra (27) was on way to Defence Colony from his office in Film City in Sector 16 A Noida when he was attacked.

Three unidentified men in an auto rickshaw attacked him around 9:35 p.m. He, however, received minor injuries and was later discharged from the hospital.

This is not the first incident where an auto rickshaw driver was involved in a robbery. A similar incident took place in the Red Fort area in August. An auto driver and his two accomplices allegedly snatched Rs 2.58 lakh from a father-son duo.

In yesterday’s case, police said Mishra got off a call centre cab at the Andrews Ganj Bus stop. He was on his way to his brother’s house in Defence Colony.

“I was walking through the slip road at near the Defence Colony flyover when an auto rickshaw stopped in front of me. Three men got down and started talking among themselves. The minute I crossed them they attacked me and tried to snatch the cell phone in my hand,” said Mishra.

When he resisted, the assailants started allegedly beating him and one of them slashed his wrist with a knife. The police said another auto rickshaw which was passing through the area stopped to help Mishra.

“The commuter inside the other autorickshaw came to Mishra’s rescue. On seeing them the three assailants fled in their auto rickshaw,” said a senior police officer.

Mishra tried to follow them but they managed to escape.

“I went to the police station and lodged a complaint. The police took me to AIIMS Trauma Centre where I received first aid,” he added.

The police have registered a complaint and are on the lookout for the accused.
