Well, Preflight, a three-wheeler designed by second year
students of Product Design from IIT Bombay’s Industrial Design Centre will allow to you do just that.
One of the many designs developed by students from across India, Preflight is on display at the 10th Auto Expo in Delhi.
“The vehicle runs on a battery and is aimed at a niche market, for business class travellers who wish to make their experience at the airport more luxurious,” said Sanket Patil, who along with Niharika Manchanda and Sourav Srivastav, developed Preflight.
Rohan Jadhav, Aditya Narayan and Rustom Mazda, the students of National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, have designed a car for rural India.
“This car has been designed to accommodate a lot of passengers and the seating arrangement is also different from normal cars,” said Vipul Vinzuda, faculty , Industrial Design.
And if you thought teachers did not encourage innovative thinking after watching the Aamir Khan-starrer Three Idiots, the human-empowered vehicle designs of Delhi’s School of Planning and Architecture students will prove you wrong.
The first year students with help from their faculty have developed 17 eco-friendly models for the Commonwealth Games.
Sumeet Kaur has designed a single-seater tricycle with a tripod to let tourists place their camera when they come to Delhi during the Games.
Riga, another student, has designed a boat for four people based on the pedal mechanism. It comes with gears and requires less force to displace water.
Also on display are models developed by students of Delhi Technological University.
The stylish Formula Student Car weighs 205 kg and has a carbon fibre body. The vehicle is powered by a Honda CVR 600 RR MPFi engine and has a power output of 70 BHP with its electronic fuel injection.
The steering system of the vehicle is self-designed and has a “quick disconnect mechanism”.
The vehicle is also equipped with G-force indicator and has Data Loggers installed for its monitoring on the track.
