The much-awaited Badarpur flyover will be finally inaugurated on Monday. Union minister for road and highways Kamal Nath will throw open the flyover at Mehrauli Crossing at 3 pm on Monday, officials said.
The inaugural ceremoney of the 4.4-km flyover is scheduled to be attended by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit and Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda among others.
Meanwhile, Hindustan Construction Company, which has constructed the flyover, has already started issuing monthly passes to motorists well in advance to avoid the rush on the opening day.
“We have started sale of monthly passes for motorists well in advance to avoid rush on the opening day,” HCC Spokesman Sandeep Sawant said.
The construction company has introduced a monthly pass system to allow uninterrupted travelling without the ordeal of paying daily toll. “Motorists can purchase monthly passes in two forms — smart cards and TAG/ on board units (OBUs),” the spokesman said, adding that smart cards are available for a one-time fee of R100 besides a refundable security of R100. TAGs/OBUs can be purchased for a one-time charge of R1,500 and a refundable security of R100.
TAGs/OBUs are small electronic gadgets fitted on the windscreen of vehicles.
These gadgets are detected automatically at the toll booth when a vehicle passes through it. Vehicles are allowed to pass without stopping. There are two designated TAG lanes at each 10 lane toll plaza.
The flyover from both the sides is already open on trial basis with vehicles plying without paying toll tax.
Motorists using will be charged soon after its formal opening.
