For the last six years Prem Prakash Singh, better known as Munna Bajrangi, was living a life of ‘anonymity’ in Mumbai.

But on October 29, around 5.30 pm Delhi Police’s Special Cell finally nabbed one of Uttar Pradesh’s dreaded gangsters.

A team led by inspectors Lalit Mohan Negi and Hridaya Bhushan picked him up from Malad West. They apparently got to Bajrangi through his Mumbai contact Mahender Shetty, who was nabbed earlier.

“He was again trying to spread his network in the Capital. He had made a number of extortion calls to Delhi- based businessmen,” said Delhi Police Commissioner Y.S. Dadwal.

The police said that earlier this year Bajrangi allegedly made extortion calls to a particular Delhi-based businessman on whose complaint the Special Cell arrested Bajrangi.

He is wanted in more than 100 cases of murder, extortion, gun-running and gold and drugs smuggling in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was looking for him in connection with the murder of Mohammadabad MLA Krishnanand Rai, from the BJP, along with his seven supporters. The constituency falls in Ghazipur district.

After 2005, Bajrangi went underground and started living in Mumbai, the police said. Shetty helped him set up various businesses in Mumbai and also helped him in getting in touch with the Mumbai underworld, the police added.

The police team located his apartment on October 29, where he had been hiding for the last several years, Dadwal said.

Around half past two, the team entered his apartment in Siddivinayak society in Malad West, where Shetty, a Santacruz resident, was picked up, the commissioner added.

“Shetty was interrogated wherein he revealed that Bajrangi would meet him around 5.30 pm on the Mumbai -Surat Highway near Chinchoti. Accordingly a trap was laid and Bajrangi was arrested,” Dadwal added.

The police said that Bajrangi was living with his family in Mumbai. He had various hideouts in Mumbai and and had given the police team the slip earlier this week, the police added.
