Delhiites suffered a sweltering Sunday as mercury levels continued to defy the season average to settle at a scorching 40.1 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature at the Safdarjung observatory was recorded eight degrees above normal at 29.8°C.
Monday, however, may begin on a cooler note with thundershowers expected in the morning, bringing respite to Delhiites on the first working day of the current odd-even phase.
“The sky will be partly cloudy and thunderstorms are likely to occur by Monday morning, which is expected to bring down the temperature,” a Met department official said. The maximum temperature may come down to 39°C while the minimum is likely to be 27°C, he said.
The city has been reeling under an early heatwave with the temperature touching the 44-degree mark on Saturday, making it Delhi’s hottest April day in six years.
On Sunday, the Palam weather station, which is usually hotter than the others, recorded a maximum of 41.9°C. Humidity levels oscillated between 22 and 39% during the day.
