A Class 10 student of Bal Bharti Public School, Pusa Road, suffered serious wounds on his left arm after his classmate allegedly attacked him with a paper-cutter inside the campus on Wednesday.
The assault took place around 7.45am before the morning assembly after a scuffle between the two boys, police said.
“It was the 16-year-old victim who first caught his classmate by the collar and hit him. In retaliation, the other boy pulled out a paper-cutter from his bag and inflicted six wounds above the victim’s left wrist, causing serious injuries,” said a Delhi Police officer.
The injured boy underwent a minor surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and was reported to be out of danger.
“A diary entry has been made about the incident. The boy who attacked would be referred to the Juvenile Justice Board for further action,” said Devesh Chandra Srivastava, additional CP (central).
While Bal Bharti principal LV Sehgal said the two boys had never had a fight earlier, their parents gave accounts that pointed to an enmity brewing between the two for some time.
The victim’s family claimed he was being teased by the attacker and other classmates over a photo put up on Facebook.
The photo showed the victim with a girl from his class and a child in her lap.
“It was a group photo clicked at a house party a month ago. But someone in the group cropped it to show only my son, the girl and the child,” said the victim’s mother. “My son told me his friends would tease him over the photo.”
The family also alleged the attacker sent the boy a text message on Sunday that he would assault him with a paper-cutter on Wednesday.
The mother of the other boy alleged the victim used to make objectionable remarks about her daughter. “But I had asked my son not to react. My son is very upset and sorry about the assault incident,” she said.
