‘I am a farmer at heart’

Profession: Tanwar was a farmer before he got actively involved in politics in 1978 during his college days. “I am totally tied to my roots. I don’t do farming but know exactly what is happening on my land,” he said.

Education: BA (Pass) programme from Sri Aurbindo College.

Political career: He first contested the municipal polls in 1983 but lost. Has contested Assembly elections thrice but won only in 2003. He failed to get a party ticket during 1998 and fought as an Independent candidate. He was brought back to the party and contested in 2003.

Family: Wife Kesar is a homemaker. They have four sons and a daughter. “I am a farmer at heart. We come from a rural background and am proud of it. We live in our ancestral house on our farming land. We have three buffaloes and one cow to procure fresh milk,” said Tanwar.

Cars: Garg drives a 1986 Fiat. His sons have their own cars but he says he doesn’t know what make they are.
