Delhi is eagerly looking forward to the Barapullah elevated road from Sarai Kale Khan to the Nehru Stadium.
It will provide quick access to athletes from the Games village to the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during the Commonwealth Games in October this year. Later, it will serve as an important connecting road between east Delhi and south and central Delhi.
The four-kilometre road will provide motorists a much-desired alternative to the Ring Road and central Delhi roads to reach anywhere in central Delhi and south Delhi from Noida, Mayur Vihar and other east Delhi colonies.
“Driving along Barapullah Road, the motorists will be able to reach South Extension, Lodi Road, Safdarjung and other central Delhi areas from Sarai Kale Khan in just a few minutes,” said a senior Public Works Department (PWD) engineer working on the project.
“This road is going to be the most sought after road to reach south, centre and west from east Delhi and vice versa.”
According to a PWD official, small ramps will connect the elevated road to the Bhisham Pitamah Marg near government flats of Lodi Colony.
Similarly, there will be another road connecting the elevated road with Lodi Colony near Mehar Chand Market.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi is working on these connections, the official said.
The PWD is also connecting two ramps at near CGO complex connecting the elevated road with Lala Lajpat Rai Marg.
