The nursing staff on strike at New Delhi's Batra Hospital for four consecutive days found themselves at the receiving end on Monday.

The hospital administration served them termination letters. The nursing staff of the 500-bedded hospital was demanding a revised increment pattern.

"Our counterparts at other private hospitals are getting more than what we are getting. We had asked for a revision in the pay pattern, with a starting salary of Rs 12,000," said Jacob Abraham, president of the nursing staff at the hospital.

While Abraham alleged the entire nursing staff was terminated, the hospital administration refuted the allegation. They said only a few had been terminated on "indisciplinary grounds".

"There's a just a small fraction which were on an illegal strike,” said Dr Sanjeev Bagai, CEO of the hospital.
