If you want to get a licence for renewal of firearms or run a cinema hall or open a new discotheque — get ready to shell out more money. Delhi Police would soon approach the Delhi government to increase licence fees.
“We have moved a proposal before the government for increasing licence fees. These fees were fixed 31 years ago. We want to revise the fees,” said YS Dadwal, Police Commissioner at the launch of a new website of the licensing branch on Tuesday.
The police chief added that the increase in the rate of fees would be realistic. Fees for a licence or renewing a firearms licence range from Rs 10 to Rs 200 for a period of one to three years. The police said that the licence fees were fixed when the Delhi Police Act was passed way back in 1978.
The new website — www.delhipolicelicensing.gov.in — have information about various procedures to be adopted for getting a licence for various purposes.
“One can download applications for licences for dealing in explosives, operating hotels and guesthouses and running cinema halls besides others,” said the police chief.
Ram Lila organizers, Durga Puja Committees and firecracker sellers can also download the forms online. The police chief added that soon they will start accepting the forms online. The licencing branch office at Defence Colony in south Delhi has been spruced up giving it a corporate touch, he added.
“A commando provides free training to people in handling weapons. There is a dedicated parking space for senior citizens also,” said Sundri Nanda, additional commissioner of police (licensing).
