Delhi Police on Saturday claimed to have smashed two betting syndicates operating in the city during the IPL matches with the arrests of seven persons.
In the first case, four persons were arrested from Poothkalan village on April 28 while they were allegedly indulging in betting during the match between Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders at Firoz Shah Kotla.
The arrested have been identified as Deepak Kaushik (25), Kapil Kaushik (23), Ankit Kaushik (19) and Parvesh (19).
"They had received bets worth R12 lakh till the time of raid. So far the total bets accepted by them in the IPL matches amounted to R2.5 crore," Chand said.
The second case was reported from outer Delhi's KN Katju Marg area on Friday when police arrested three persons — Satya Prakash (33), Praveen Sharma (45) and Sandeep Khatri (25) — during the Mumbai Indian vs Rajasthan Royals.
Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (outer), said Satya Prakash was earlier arrested for committing the same offence. He works as financer in his house and gives petty loans to middle class people by mortgaging their valuables.
