A magazine exclusively devoted to the royal endangered big cats would be released by the Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh next week to mark the 'Tiger Year ' 2010.
Ramesh will launch the bi-monthly journal "Outreach" highlighting new initiatives of the government, important decisions taken relating to tiger conservation, tiger estimation/monitoring updates, poaching figures and anti-poaching operations. Published by National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) which is overseeing the Project Tiger in the country, the journal would also dwell on sensitive issues such as man-animal conflicts, eco-tourism initiatives and eliciting public support and people's participation.
"Without community participation, wildlife cannot be saved. Hence the magazine will serve as a bridge between the readers and authorities highlighting the steps being taken to make the conservation more community oriented," an NTCA official said. People too can send their suggestions as well point out gaps in our conservation steps so that corrective measures can be taken, he said while pointing out that the journal, being a government document cannot be compared with those
published by the NGOs.
