With Municipal elections up ahead, Venkaiah Naidu, senior leader of BJP, on Saturday, held a meeting with the councillors of MCD in which he asked them to improve collections of funds and also improve the state of sanitation in the city.

Calling the meeting a discussion on “collection, selection and election”, a senior leader of BJP said that cleaning the city would project a good image of MCD political leaders.

Naidu urged the councillors to improve funding and donations that can be categorised into three categories — special donations where donors give Rs 1 lakh, Ajivan Sahyog Nidhi where people donate Rs 1,000, Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000, and by subscribing to the BJP’s magazine Sandesh.

“Through the magazine, the BJP will be able to put its viewpoint across,” said a councillor.

It was also informed that the BJP both at the central level and at the state level is conducting surveys of its councillors to determine their performance.

“Based on the feedback from the people on their conduct, tickets will be given this year,” said another BJP leader on conditions of anonymity. MCD will be holding its election in April 2012.
