Strongly condemning the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh that claimed the lives of 26 CRPF personnel, BJP on Tuesday said the "heinous crime" proved once again that there was a need for closer Centre-state co-ordination and a decisive fight to end the menace.
"BJP strongly condemns this heinous crime. We have maintained that there is a need for firm action and for closer Centre-state coordination to strengthen the fight against Naxalism," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.
26 CRPF jawans, who were part of a road-opening party consisting of 63 personnel, were killed when they were ambushed by Maoists in Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh on Tuesday evening.
Seven jawans were injured in the deadly attack.
"The time has come for a decisive battle against Maoist violence. Such attacks are a big challenge and should be addressed accordingly," Hussain said.
Around 90 Maoists were reportedly involved in the attack that took place near Daurai Road area in the remote district, about 300 kms from Raipur.
This is the third major Naxal attack on the CRPF since the Maoist strike on a force contingent on April six in Dantewada killing 75 of its personnel and a Chhattisgarh policeman.
On May 8, eight men of the paramilitary force were killed when Naxals blew up a landmine-proof vehicle also in Narayanpur district.
