"All leaders are in touch with him and we are hopeful that the crisis will be resolved soon and the BJP will emerge stronger," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told reporters.

Senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday said the question of L K Advani's resignation does not arise once it has been rejected by the party's highest decision-making body.

"The question of resignation does not arise once we have rejected it," Swaraj, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha said.

Asked whether Advani would withdraw his resignation, Swaraj said "where is the question of taking it back. There is no resignation once the Parliamentary Board has rejected it."

She said she would be meeting Advani to find out his views on the decision of BJP Parliamentary Board.

The BJP Parliamentary Board on Monday, passed a resolution describing Advani as its "leader and guide".

"That role inevitably belongs to him. The Party and nation needs his sage advice and guidance today more than ever before. The Parliamentary Board decided to reject the resignation of Sh Advani ji," it said.

Senior party leaders Uma Bharti and Nitin Gadkari visited Advani at his home in a bid to convince him to take back his resignation.

Uma Bharti had met Sushma Swaraj before heading to Advani's residence.

Senior leader Jaswant Singh phoned Advani asking him to re-think his decision.

Jaswant Singh told the media that the questions he raised in his resignation letter must be addressed by the party.

However, there's also a sense that the party has decided to move on if it fails to pacify Advani as BJP President Rajnath Singh is going to Banswara in Rajasthan on Tuesday.

Arun Jaitley is going abroad and Narendra Modi will be staying in Gujarat.

Earlier today, Rajnath Singh denied reports that the party was under pressure from the RSS over the crisis triggered by the resignation of senior leader L K Advani from all party positions.

Speaking to reporters here he said that news stories which suggested this were baseless.

"I want to make one thing clear that on some channels news has been telecast that RSS has said this or that. I want to make it absolutely clear that Sangh has not said anything.

"I have inquired from people in Sangh, whether they've made a statement. They told me that there has been no statement from their side, all this news is completely baseless," he added.

Party spokesperson Javadekar too said the Congress and some others were needlessly dragging the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) into the controversy.

"RSS has not issued any directive ... and has only said that this (Advani's resignation) is unfortunate and must be resolved immediately," he said.

Miffed at Narendra Modi being anointed as poll campaign chief LK Advani had on Monday resigned from key party posts shooting off an angry resignation letter to Rajnath Singh saying the BJP was no longer the "same idealistic party" created by Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, Deendayal Upadhyaya, Nanaji Deshmukh and Vajpayee.

In the one-page letter, Advani said, "For some time I have been finding it difficult to reconcile either with the current functioning of the party, or the direction in which it is going. Most leaders of ours are now concerned just with their personal agendas."
