The ruling BJP in MCD has decided to trump its poll rivals by using the maximum available advertisement space in the city for its poll campaign. Since it is in power, the BJP controls almost all major billboards and uni-poles in the city that comes under the MCD. The party hopes to use it to optimum effect in its poll campaign.

The BJP began its ad campaign from Tuesday with 16 billboards across the city displaying the lotus symbol and its poll message at key places such as Delhi Cantt, Chanakyapuri, Azadpur, Shakti Nagar and Wazirpur. Some billboards are as big as 30 by 10 feet.

"As soon as the list of candidates is declared, BJP will start booking the uni-poles too," said a BJP official. He added that the party will spend a major chunk of advertising budget on uni-poles and billboards as they are more eye-catching than conventional pamphltes.

An MCD official said that the rates for the advertisements will be decided by the contractors, to whom MCD has outsourced advertising rights. "MCD has nothing to do with the bookings. Any party or individual can book them," said an MCD official.

He added that there are 500 uni-poles belonging to MCD and each set of poles have different rate depending on the area.
