BJP has expressed strong dismay at the government and media for "ignoring" the ND Tiwari episode and demanded investigation into the videotapes which it alleged show the former Governor violating the sanctity of Raj Bhawan.
In a letter to President Pratibha Patil, BJP Rajya Sabha MP and national secretary Prabhat Jha has raised several questions on the manner in which the Tiwari scandal was dealt with by the government.
"Raj Bhawan is a residence associated with the Constitution. The governor's post is a constitutional post, which enjoys respect. Did ND Tiwari keep intact that respect?" Jha said in the letter.
He said that just because the High Court stopped telecast of the tapes does not mean the alleged incident did not take place in the Raj Bhawan. "The matter should be investigated... and a case should be filed," he said.
Jha said that while the Ruchika case was important and should be reopened, the Tiwari episode was equally significant.
Insisting that the whole nation was shocked by the episode, Jha questioned the silence of the Congress on the issue.
Maintaining that action should be taken against Tiwari as merely resigning from his post was not enough, the BJP MP demanded a thorough probe into the whole episode.
