Sports minister and member of Parliament from New Delhi, Ajay Maken, charged the Bharatiya Janata Party of running a grossly corrupt and inefficient administration for the past 5 years in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Maken alleged that the Central and the Delhi government had given the MCD funds amounting to Rs. 14,100 crore in the last five years, which the corporation had failed to utilise properly.

“In the past four years, the CBI and the anti-corruption department of Delhi government had registered as many as 64 cases against 128 officials of the civic body.

It had also reported the presence of more than 22,853 ghost employees on the rolls of MCD. And these are just two instances of the BJP’s bunglings in the corporation,” Maken said in a press conference.

Commenting on the repeated complaints of BJP’s step motherly treatment towards the MCD, Maken said the Ministry of Urban Development had got R469.78 crore sanctioned for 16 multi-level parkings across the city under the JNNURM scheme, but the BJP did not take advantage of it fully.

“Unfortunately, none is complete as on date and work is going on only seven,” he said. “Of the Rs 1,533 crores given to MCD in 2009 for 11 projects under JNNURM, they have been able to spend only R125 crores during the last three years,” he added.
