"It is not a demand that has risen on the spur of moment. The Congress entered into an (electoral) agreement with the TRS in 2004 and benefited," said Naidu, adding that hundreds of people lost their lives in the earlier agitations for Telangana.

The Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh again saw violence Monday as the TRS chief's fast entered the ninth day.

Appealing to the TRS chief to give up his indefinite fast, the BJP leader said: "Telangana is now a larger political issue and support for it is very clear. The agitation can continue and methods can be devised to build pressure inside and outside (parliament)."
