A BJP delegation led by LK Advani met President Pratibha Patil to demand that Karnataka governor HR Bhardwaj be recalled as he was acting in an “unconstitutional” way with a fixed mindset against chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, who faced three more corruption complaints on Monday.
Accompanied by Opposition leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley and 23 BJP MPs from Karnataka, Advani handed over a memorandum seeking her intervention in connection with the “tirade” against the state by Bhardwaj since the day he took charge in June last year.
"We appealed to the President to recall the governor as he has been exhibiting an extra-constitutional and confrontationist attitude,” Advani said.
But troubles seem to add up for Yeddyurappa. Three more private complaints were filed in Bangalore against him and his family members on alleged corruption in denotification of land.
Names of the CM’s sons BY Raghavendra, MP, BY Vijayendra, son-in-law Sohan Kumar, former minister SN Krishnaiah Setty, Bharathi Shetty MLC, Dr D Hemachandra Sagar MLA also figured in the complaint.
Keeping up his attack on the governor, Yeddyurappa said, "We have information that all the petitions submitted to him against the government were drafted in Raj Bhavan."
The BJP, however, faced embarrassment as a key ally JD(U) didn’t back the CM though it criticised the governor.
"The governor is violating the dignity of his office and acting in this manner going beyond his limits," JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav told reporters here. He, however, reacted sharply when asked whether he was with Yeddyurappa and said, "I am not with anyone but it is my duty to speak against some thing which is happening against the spirit of the Constitution.
I had given an advice to BJP... I am concerned with what was happening there.”
