The Supreme Court on Wednesday reserved its order on senior advocate Ram Jethmalani’s plea to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) to monitor the probe by various government agencies in tracking the black money stashed away in foreign banks.

A bench of justice B Sudershan Reddy and justice SS Nijjar also reserved its verdict on a petition seeking directions to the government to make the names of those who have kept black money in the Liechtenstein Bank public.

The court reserved its verdict despite a strong opposition by the government. “This (blackmoney) is one of the biggest things to have hit out country since independence,” the bench said while hinting at the formation of an SIT.

When solicitor general Gopal Subramanium informed the court about Centre’s proposal to set-up a high-powered committee comprising the heads of all the departments concerned, the bench said: “The very departments heads you are suggesting to be entrusted with the probe are found inefficient.”
