The latest terror attack in Mumbai has forced the BJP bigwigs to rework their strategy to corner the UPA government when Parliament's monsoon session opens on August 1.
Till July 13 serial blast in Mumbai, the progress of the CBI probe into 2G scam, topped the list of BJP's arsenal.
But with the blasts shocking the country, party strategists want to keep the spotlight on both the cases to show Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's administration cannot act decisively, say BJP leaders.
In fact, the BJP put off its appointment with CBI director by a day to hand over a complaint against home minister P Chidambaram, asking the agency to probe his alleged role in the 2G spectrum scam — because of the blasts.
With AICC general secretary Digivijay Singh's remark that Hindu outfits too should be probed for the Mumbai blasts sparking a fresh row, senior BJP leaders are expecting more fireworks in Parliament.
Attacking Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan for his comment that giving the home portfolio to NCP was a mistake, senior BJP leader
LK Advani on Sunday wrote in his blog that the Congress should not try to find "scapegoats" for the Mumbai blasts.
He also asked the Centre to "radically" alter its policy on dealing with terror warning that such incidents will recur if this was not done.
The BJP is not too happy that the government is going ahead with the July 26 meeting between Indian and Pakistani foreign ministers.
Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley has also urged the government to ponder on the futility of such exercises when Pakistan was in turmoil and "it is ostensibly a part of the war against terror" and "it is also in alliance with those who perpetuate terror."
Jaitley said in an article that "the spirit of Mumbai is pluralism, it is resilience. But the spirit of Mumbai cannot be soft towards terror.”
The BJP's strategy is to show that the security forces are demoralized under the UPA.
