A blueline bus killed a 12-year-old boy on Desh Bandhu Gupta Road near Karol Bagh in Central Delhi on Wednesday, the fleet’s 75th victim this year and the fourth in the last five days.
The police said the driver of the bus stepped on the gas as Manish Singh was boarding the bus, killing him instantly as he was flung on the road. Manish, a Class VI student of Khalsa School in Dev Nagar, received serious head injuries as he fell on the road and died instantly, the police said.
He was taken to Lady Hardinge Medical College, where he was declared dead on arrival. The bus was plying on route no. 355, between Anand Parbat and Noida, and Manish was returning home from school.
A student of Manish’s school saw him lying on the road and informed his parents. “I recognised him and immediately informed his parents,” said Jeetendra, who studies in Class IX. The driver fled from the spot and the police said they were yet to trace the vehicle. “We have traced the number of the bus and will soon be able to arrest the driver,” said a police officer.
In another accident a man, Zahid, getting off a Blueline bus at ITO, was injured when the driver stepped on the gas similarly.
