Two brothers, one of whom is a "known face" in the Bollywood music industry, and a pharmacist from Maharashtra have been arrested for cheating more than 100 investors through a multi-crore rupee scam, police claimed on Friday.

Sandeep and Manoj Shukla - Class 12 dropouts belonging to a middle-class family in Azamgarh - and Surendra Batho, of Thane, had floated several bogus companies and used multiple false identities to solicit investments, P Karunakaran, the deputy commissioner of police (northwest), said. They promised lucrative returns by offering call-centre franchises, Karunakaran added.

Investigators said about 155 people had been cheated by the companies floated by the trio directly or indirectly of more than Rs. 10 crore.
