In an incident of daylight robbery, two businessmen brothers were shot at and robbed of Rs 20 lakh in northeast Delhi’s Bhajanpura area on Monday afternoon. Police said the victims were going to deposit the cash at a nearby bank, when they robbed by three bike-borne men.
The victims, Pankaj, 39, and Jitender, 30, were going to the Bank of Baroda from their C-6, Yamuna Vihar shop on their bike.
“At 12:30pm, on the service road of B block, three bikers asked them to stop. Jitender was driving and when he did not stop, the robbers fired at them and a bullet hit Pankaj. The men then overtook the brothers and pumped bullets into Jitender’s chest,” a senior police officer said.
The robbers then snatched the bag full of cash from them and fled towards Loni.
The victims were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where Pankaj was stated to be out of danger.
“Jitender received three bullet injuries on his left arm, stomach and neck, and is undergoing treatment. He is in a critical state,” the officer added.
Jitender and Pankaj work as distributors with Vodafone, and own shops on the ground floor of their house.
Police suspect an insider’s role and are investigating whether the two brothers were followed by the robbers from their house.
“We have sought a list of the workers working at the victim’s shop. They will be questioned. We are waiting for the victim to be fit enough to give a statement,” the officer added.
Police are also questioning eyewitnesses to get a sketch prepared of the assailants.
A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
