If Mayawati succeeds to home in on New Delhi after the elections, the power reversal at the Centre would probably be followed by the reversal in fortunes for Delhi’s power distributors.
We are talking about electricity — not Prakash Karat or Lalu Prasad.
Trilok Chand Sharma (46), the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate from New Delhi constituency, has said the capital’s power distribution would go back to government hands and private power discoms would be asked to pack up if the BSP comes to power.
“Power privatization happened in Delhi when Ajay Maken was the power minister. Thanks to the fast meters, even the poorest of poor are now paying a monthly power bill of Rs 3,000,” he claimed. The party also promises more water for South and New Delhi areas.
“Thanks to the UP government headed by Behen Mayawati, Delhi is getting more than its share of water. We will ensure that the parched areas of South and New Delhi get more water,” he said.
Sharma said that within a week of coming to power in UP Mayawati released 200 cusecs of water for Delhi. “She also solved the problem of bus transport between Delhi and UP. Only a party with a humane outlook can solve problems,” he said.
Addressing the babus in the constituency, Sharma said they would be either allowed to stay on in their government accommodation after retirement or would be provided plots at subsidized rates.
“We would extend lal dora areas in Delhi and the rent that residents of such villages earn from their houses would be exempted from taxation,” he said, addressing residents of urbanised villages in the constituency. Things that are good for UP, Sharma said, will be replicated in Delhi.
