Burglars broke into the rented flat of the daughter of a ministry of external affairs attaché and decamped with her laptop, camera, clothes, a body wash and the bottles of alcohol that belonged to her landlord in northwest Delhi's GTB Nagar.
The thieves apparently had food and showered before disappearing with the stolen stuff. They entered the flat after breaking a window and reportedly stayed there for almost an hour.
A case of burglary has been registered in connection with the incident at the Mukherjee Nagar police station.
The burglary took place on Friday night when Parul Mukherjee, daughter of an Indian Foreign Services (IFS) officer, had gone to meet relatives. Parul's roommate was away as well.
Parul, a final year student at a Delhi University women's college, said she was informed about the burglary by her roommate who reached the flat in the morning and found it ransacked.
"I reached my flat around 12.30pm and made a call to the PCR. I found that the burglers had taken my Acer laptop, Nikon camera, some clothes and a body wash from the ground-floor flat. They showered and had food before leaving," said Parul.
Upset over the role of her neighbours and the local police, Parul said, "The incident is shocking for me because it occurred despite the fact that a security guard was present."
"Instead of supporting us, our neighbours took pride in pointing out that the burglary took place because of our negligence. Even the police tried their level best to convince us to not lodge a complaint," she added.
