Unidentified burglars ransacked the house of PWD contractor Sushil Gupta (52) and decamped with cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 20 lakh. According to police, the Gupta family were on a trip to Vaishno Devi when the burglary took place at their Bharat Apartments flat in east Delhi’s IP Extension.

The matter came to light on Friday at around 5.30am when the family returned home and found it ransacked, police said.

“Gupta told us that they had planned the tour keeping in mind the beginning of Navratras. On Friday morning, they returned from the tour and found the main door broken. The entire house was ransacked and cash, jewellery and other valuables worth over Rs 20 lakh were missing,” said a senior officer.

Mohammad Asif, additional DCP (east) confirmed the burglary and said, “We have registered a case of burglary. Investigations are underway.”

Police believe the perpetrators knew that the family was out on a tour. Security guards and maids with access to the apartment are being questioned in the case, police said.
