Bus! Milk people no more: BJP
HT Correspondent.
Protesting the bus fare hike by the Delhi government, BJP workers took to the streets on Saturday.
The party workers staged dharna at more than 50 places in Delhi.
“Most of the people who travel by DTC buses are from the lower and middle strata of the society,” said O P Kohli, Delhi BJP's unit chief.
“This hike is going to affect their overall budget. Now that the elections are over the government is showing its true colours.
The Delhi government on October 26 had increased the bus fare of DTC buses by up to 70 per cent.
At a number of places, the workers burnt effigies of political leaders too.
“The real face of the Congress which claimed to be for the common man at the time of elections has been exposed,” said V K Malhotra, leader of opposition in the Delhi Assembly. “It is now soon going to increase the water supply charges too,” added Malhotra.
Traffic was affected due to the demonstrations. At many places the police arrested the protestors too.
"The Delhi government is unable to run its own departments and to make up for the losses its taking steps such as withdrawing the power subsidy and increasing bus fare. This is completely unacceptable to us and we will continue to protest till they make amends," said Kohli.
The BJP was also protesting the increased prices by Dairy cooperative against Mother Dairy.
On October 30, Mother Dairy had hiked the prices of two of its packaged milk variants — full cream and toned, by Rs. 2 and Re.1 per litre respectively. “The increase in the price of milk will further add to the burden of the common man,” said Kohli.
