Former American President George W Bush knows how to make the most of every visit. In the capital for two days during the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit, Bush took a massage, some lessons in local geography and even found time to exercise.
Upon his arrival on Thursday night at the Taj Palace Hotel, Bush was given a red carpet welcome and garlanded by women in Benarsi saris (see pic on left). After which, rose petals were showered on him till he reached his room.
On Friday afternoon, Bush got a massage done by a specialist in his en-suite spa. While the specialist refused to divulge further details, we did learn that he prefers a high pressurised massage.
An employee with the hotel revealed on condition of anonymity, “He is quite a cool guy. He has a very American way of greeting people. He says, ‘How are you guys’ and pats everybody on their back.”
For breakfast, Bush’s in-house butler Anwar revealed that he made his own coffee and also boiled the milk for the cereal. “He doesn’t eat a lot and sticks to his diet,’ says Anwar. He adds that Bush asked lot of questions about the hotel, the view from the window, and “the Prime Minister’s residence as he had to go for the lunch there on Saturday. He was keen on knowing about the nearby golf course and the putting ground in the property.”
We also learnt that Bush doesn’t drink any alcoholic drinks and only asked for non alcoholic beer. An health junkie, a steeper was put in his room so he could exercise.
Bush, who left for Mumbai this morning, also asked the employees of his hotel about their colleagues at Tajal Mahal, Mumbai who had suffered during the 26/11 terrorist attacks and how they were faring now.
