The central Delhi house of a 64-year-old businessman was broken into by burglars who took away cash and jewellery worth R20 lakh, police said on Monday.
The burglars struck at the Nabi Karim house of the businessman between Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening when the family was holidaying in UP's Vrindavan. A case of burglary has been registered at the Nabi Karim police station.
Ashwini Kumar Malhotra, who deals in readymade garments, told the police that he found his house ransacked on his return from Vrindavan around 11pm on Sunday.
"The burglars had entered the house after breaking the locks of the house's main door. They took away Rs. 1 lakh in cash, and jewellery including rings, earrings, bangles and nose pins. Silver utensils, a laptop and a video camera were also missing from the house," said a police officer, adding that they suspect the role of people known to the family in the crime.
