Sanjay Sharma, who was returning home from work in his Alto car, was abused and slapped around on Monday evening for delaying the passage of a bigger car for a few seconds.
Sharma was driving from Saket court to his residence in the Karkardooma court complex when he was attacked by Amit Khanna, 45, a businessman who lives in Sunder Nagar.
Sharma told the police in his complaint that after descending from Moolchand flyover and crossing the BRT corridor, he switched on his hazard lights and slowed down as he had to drop his orderly opposite Lajpat Nagar metro station.
“I took a narrow lane and stopped my vehicle. The driver of a green Scorpio that was right behind me started honking. I turned back and signaled him to wait.”
But Khanna came out of his car and “verbally abused me and slapped me in my face. My lower lip started bleeding,” Sharma said. Khanna, however, left immediately after he noticed the sticker of a judicial officer on Sharma’s car.
“I found him in extreme anger and preferred not to react as the situation could have gone awry had I retaliated. I was totally blank for the next couple of minutes and eventually drove back home,” Sharma said.
Ajay Choudhary, additional CP (southeast) said, “A case was registered at the Lajpat Nagar police station and the Khanna had already been arrested. He was later released on bail.
