"The Cabinet Secretariat will go paperless from April 1, 2011, at least in its internal functioning," Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar told reporters after the meeting of apex committee of the National e-Governance Plan in New Delhi.
He said the Cabinet Secretariat would "strongly encourage" other government departments to follow suit.
Special secretary in the department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances D V Singh said digital form of files will help in making easy and right decisions.
"The software is ready and the pilot project will commence on December 31 this year," he said, adding the hardware was being purchased and the training of staff was also progressing.
