Delhi Police on Friday arrested a radio cab driver who had strangulated his girlfriend to death. He had also smashed her face with a stone before dumping her body in Dwarka.

While investigating the case, the police team found out that the girl had left her house in a Meru cab. Acting on this information, the police, using GPS tracking system, had traced the car that had gone to Dwarka on that day.

The body was found dumped on May 7 in a vacant plot in Dwarka.

“The victim had been strangulated with her dupatta and the accused had also attempted to deface her with a heavy stone. To establish her identity 2,000 ‘hue & cry’ notices with colour photographs of the deceased were prepared and pasted at prominent public places in Delhi,” AK OJha, DCP (southwest) said.

A list of missing persons of the relevant age group from all police stations in Delhi and adjoining districts of Haryana was prepared and teams were sent to verify and match the details with those of the unidentified body.

“A door-to-door exercise was conducted in order to establish the deceased’s identity. On Wednesday, the team finally succeeded in establishing the victim’s identity as Sonia (name changed), a resident of Matiala,” Ojha added. The only information the police had was that the girl had gone with a taxi driver on the night of May 6 in a green coloured taxi.

Further investigation led the police to the office of Meru Taxi service which uses green-coloured cabs.

On checking the records, one taxi driver Lal Bahadur was identified. The GPS data of Bahadur’s taxi confirmed that his cab was located in the area where the body was found.

“During interrogation the accused disclosed that he was in love with the girl but she was not responding to his advances. He suspected that she loved someone else,” Ojha further said. On May 6, he called her and took her in his taxi to Mohan Garden for dinner. Both consumed liquor in the taxi. After that, he strangulated her with the dupatta and dumped the body.
