Commuting woes caused him to shift

Reaching the nearest Metro station, which is just 2.5km away, used to take 25-year-old Hitesh Ranot around 35-40 minutes.
In fact he had to shift to south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar from his family home in Karol Bagh as navigating through his colony would eat almost an half an hour of his every morning. There are no feeder services which connect the commercial centre to the Metro.
“Karol Bagh, being a big commercial centre and also a residential area, is one of the most congested areas in the city. Something like monorail or pod cabs are necessary here as the roads are clogged throughout the day and taking out cars or even travelling through a cycle rickshaw is nightmarish,” says Ranot.
On any given day, other than Monday, navigating through Karol Bagh could take up almost an hour as jams at the entry point makes life difficult for the area residents. “We need new modes of feeder transport. Only Metro cannot end the woes of congested areas it can come as close to 500 metres to our homes,” he adds.
The Delhi government is deliberating on introducing modern public transport like monorail and pod cabs in congested areas of the Capital.
Govt’s plans take 8-10 yrs to complete

South Delhi’s plush Vasant Kunj locality, says Parul Kaul, is a no man’s land, at least when it come to the public transport. Few buses ply on that route and finding an auto is a mammoth task. Moreover, there are no cycle rickshaws in the area.
A resident of D-2 in Vasant Kunj, the marketing executive has to struggle to find an auto to the nearest Metro station to reach her work place in Connaught Place. As she rarely gets a bus, she pays exorbitant amounts of money every day to autodrivers.
She says she has read about the pod taxis arriving in Vasant Kunj but she has low expectations as she feels government plans always take eight to 10 years to complete.
“Pod cabs will be suitable for area like Vasant Kunj which doesn’t have a robust public transport system but the government’s lethargy is a big problem,” said Kaul.
