Cash, jewellery worth R20 lakh robbed from Jamia Nagar flat

Burglars struck at the house of an executive working with a private bank in Shaheen Bagh area in Jamia Nagar and fled with cash and jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh. The incident took place on Friday afternoon when the victim had gone to office.

Burglars struck at the house of an executive working with a private bank in Shaheen Bagh area in Jamia Nagar and fled with cash and jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh. The incident took place on Friday afternoon when the victim had gone to office.

“Mohammed Siraj, an executive with a private bank, had left his house around 9am with his brother, who is also in private job. They had locked the house but when they returned in the evening, the lock was found broken,” a senior police officer said.

Police said Siraj has claimed that jewellery worth Rs 19 lakh, a mobile phone and Rs 30,000 in cash are missing from his house.

“The burglars broke the lock of the main door and ransacked the entire house. We have taken fingerprints from the spot,” the officer added. A case of burglary has been registered at the Jamia Nagar police station and further investigations are on.
