The CBI on Thursday arrested general manager of state-owned Construction & Design Services (C& DS) PK Jain in connection with alleged irregularities in utilisation of funds allocated under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scheme.

The CBI is also questioning former UP bureaucrat Dr SP Ram, owner of private firm Guru Kripa Saurabh Jain and Uttar Pradesh Small Scale Industries’ Corporation (UPSIC) managing director AK Bajpai in connection with five FIRs lodged in the NRHM scam so far. Investigators have not ruled more arrests in the case.

PK Jain taken to the designated CBI court in Ghaziabad on Thursday.

The CBI has alleged that a contract worth Rs 13.4 crore was given to C& DS, a unit of UP Jal Nigam, to upgradate 134 districts hospitals. It alleged that the work was sub-let to a private firm on the basis of bogus and forged documents that led to a loss of Rs 5.46 crore to the exchequer.

On Wednesday, investigators claimed that they recovered 3 kg of gold and R1.10 crore in cash besides some important documents during search operations at Jain's residence.
