A quick thinking auto rickshaw driver managed to save the day and caught a man who had snatched a woman's chain in South Delhi on Wednesday night.

The incident happened in Defence Colony. Pradeep Khanna and his wife Bela were out on a walk around 9.15 pm near August Kranti Marg opposite Ansal Plaza. Two motorcycle-borne youths arrived on a black Bajaj Pulsar and snatched Bela’s gold chain.

Prashant Kumar, a resident of Mehrauli, saw motorcycle-borne assailants snatch a woman's chain outside Ansal Plaza.

“She was so shocked that she fell. Her husband called for help and the auto driver started chasing the accused. The men drove towards Andrews Ganj flyover at a high speed. The accused then lost his balance and banged on the central verge of the road just opposite Ansal Plaza and fell,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) HGS Dhaliwal.

Police said after crashing on the verge the accused starting running. They crossed the road and jumped onto the elevated boundaries of Ansal Plaza.

Police said Kumar then took a U-turn and started looking for the accused. Near a petrol pump, he noticed a boy with a wounded hand sitting near a tree. The boy started running on seeing Kumar.

“But Kumar managed to catch the accused, who tried to lure him with money. When he did not budge, the accused even threatened him,” added Dhaliwal.
