The political wing of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) criticised Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit's move of constituting a high-level committee under the chairmanship of the chief secretary to monitor all matter relating to waterlogging and cleanliness on roads.

Terming it as interference by Sheila Dikshit, chairman of the Standing Committee of the MCD Yogender Chandolia said that they have almost finished carrying out desilting of storm water drains and will meet their target before the onset of monsoon in Delhi .

"Our control rooms are already functional round the clock. Dikshit has forgotten that we are already working on a month long sanitation drive launched on May 20.

Dividing each ward into four parts where sanitation, engineering and horticulture departments work together for better sanitation during the drive has shown commendable results," said Chandolia.

Chandolia added that though we have completed 90-95% desilting in our 1,425 major storm water drains and about 3,250 roadside drains of four feet depth, Delhi Government has not even undertaken sewer cleaning in any part of Delhi.

"Public Works Department (PWD) hasn't taken care to ensure proper disposal of rain water at its vulnerable points. The sewer lines have not been cleaned anywhere in the city. Since, most of the rain water flows through sewerage system, it will lead to waterlogging. In place of blaming MCD, the chief minister should set her own house in order," he added.
