The Crime Branch of Delhi Police is all set to file a chargesheet against a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA for allegedly murdering prominent criminal lawyer R.K. Naseem over a property dispute in Dabri area of southwest Delhi three months ago.
Police have arrested four men, including the former MLA’s son, while four others are still absconding. The murder reportedly took place in the presence of the local SHO who was later transferred.
Naseem, was the defence counsel in prominent cases like Jessica Lall murder and Priyadarshini Mattoo rape case.
He also appeared for IPS officer R K Sharma, accused in journalist Shivani Bhatnagar’s murder case besides Manu Sharma who was convicted in the Jessica Lal murder case by Delhi High Court.
On January 25, this year, Naseem was allegedly attacked on his head with an iron rod by Vinod Sharma, a former MLA, and the deceased’s brother-in-law when an argument over a piece of land went out of hand.
Naseem was admitted at Mata Channan Devi hospital after the attack where he died on February 8.
Sharma’s son Amit Gaur and four others were also arrested for the alleged crime.
A footage of the CCTVs at the gates of Naseem’s house was handed over to the Crime Branch and will be used key evidence against the accused.
“We handed over the footage to the police where the entire episode has been captured. The police are going to file a chargesheet soon,” said Rajeev Gaur, son of Naseem.
Police said they were on the lookout of the four other men- all employees of the accused.
Police said they have sent the CCTV footage for forensic examinations and were awaiting its results.
