The Delhi Metro would begin operations on the Central Secretariat – Gurgaon line from June this year.
For the first two months though, it will skip the Chhatarpur Metro station.
Reason – the station will not be ready by June this year.
According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials, the delay in acquiring land for the station delayed construction of the station by more than three years.
“We had applied for the piece of land September 2006 but it was allotted to us only in October 2009 and actual construction started only in November,” Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
The DMRC had to cut more than 900 trees on two-hectares of land to make way for the station building, parking lot and sub-station for power supply, said officials.
The metro station at Chhatarpur is considered as one of the most important station on this 27.45 km line, considering its proximity to the Chhatarpur temple.
The civil construction of the station would be complete by June.
“Instead of the conventional method of using concrete and some elements of steel, we are constructing this station in steel,” said Dayal.
Officials said 70 per cent civil construction at the site is now complete.
According to estimates, 11,723 people are expected to use the station daily by 2011.
