Child, retd IAF man die in 2 mishaps

A schoolboy and a retired Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were killed in two separate accidents in the city in the last 48 hours. HT reports.

A schoolboy and a retired Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel were killed in two separate accidents in the city in the last 48 hours.

In the first incident, an eight-year-old, class 2 student of a private school died after he was hit by a speeding Santro car in Mayur Vihar Phase-3 area around 9pm on Saturday.

The child, Neeraj Joshi, along with his mother was returning home to dress up for attending a relative’s wedding when the accident took place. His father, Rajender Joshi, works as a driver in a private company, police said. “The victim was crossing the road when he was hit by the speeding car. He was rushed to the Metro Hospital in Noida. Late in the night, he succumbed to his injuries,” police said.

The errant car driver, identified as Vinod, has been arrested and a case of rash and negligent driving, causing death, has been registered against him at the Ghazipur police station, the officer said, adding that the Santro car has been impounded.

The second accident was reported from the Rao Tula Ram Marg in south Delhi. A 67-year-old retired IAF personnel was killed, when the scooty he was riding rammed into a tree. He was probably hit by some unknown vehicle. The accident took place around 1pm on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Surajbhan of Gurgaon in Haryana.

Police said the accident came to light after a motorcyclist found the victim unconscious on the road and informed the PCR. A police team rushed the victim to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where he succumbed to his injuries. A case under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) was registered against the unknown person, police said.
