Delhiites experienced a chilly weather on Friday with the city engulfed in layers of fog despite the city experiencing its warmest winter in the last four years.
The fogs visibility in the city fell to 500 metres at 8:30 am, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport the visibility fell below 50 metres.
However, there were only flight delays but no cancellation or diversion due to low visibility.
“Visibility was enough for equipped flight to land and take off,” said an official of the IGIA Met department.
The whole day is expected to remain overcast with cold winds blowing.
On Friday the minimum temperature was recorded at 9.6 degrees Celsius. It fell by almost 4 degrees compared to the night temperature on Thursday.
The morning fog also affected train operations, but so far no train has been cancelled.
According to the Northern Railway, due to thick fog in and around Delhi, 10 other trains were running late.
Only ten incoming trains which include the Unchahar, Poorva, Magadh, Vikramshila, Swatantrata Senani and Dakshin express are running late.
“We are monitoring the situation and are updating all details on the railway website,” said an officer from the northern railway.
However Delhi is likely to see a clear Saturday and Sunday with moderate to dense fog in the morning. There are also forecast of thunderstorm with rain on Tuesday.
