The Italians authorities have provided the visiting Indian team some documents on the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal that may allow the CBI to at least register a preliminary probe in the matter.

The Indian team that visited Italy had a CBI DIG and a law officer as its members. The agency DIG is returning on Monday. “We will take a call once our officer is back.

"The agency officers had fruitful meetings with the Italian prosecutors and officials of Finmeccanica, the parent group of AgustaWestland, and the Italian foreign ministry. Now we will scrutinise all documents received from the Italian authroties,” said a CBI official on the condition of anonymity.

Sources say, after the scrutiny of documents, a decision will be taken on the preliminary enquiry which in all probability it will against unknown officials.
