Power distribution companies in the city have geared up to ensure a safe and bright Diwali.
The North Delhi Power Limited has stationed over 50 breakdown vans and 13 tower wagons on 24-hour duty to attend to any functional disruptions on Wednesday.
“Additional manpower has been deployed across the distribution network for any power contingency. All streetlights have been inspected, and a safety audit has also been done for all zonal offices, grid stations and breakdown vans,” said a senior discom official.
Discoms have ensured that safety equipment such as fire extinguisher, safety helmets, safety gloves and sand buckets are provided to stationed teams.
To ensure that Delhi continues to get uninterrupted power supply, Haroon Yusuf, Delhi power minister, inspected the trial run of gas based Bawana power plant on Tuesday.
The plant will be made fully functional by the third week of November. “The first unit of the plant has been generating 250MW of power during the trial run and 650MW of power will be added in the next 15 days. Once fully functional, it will generate 1500MW and Delhi will get uninterrupted power during summer too,” said Yusuf.
He said that Pragati Power Corporation Limited started only after the initiative taken by the prime minister, union power and union petroleum minister.
