The scam relating to ‘bogus employees’ in Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) might not just be limited to the sanitation department. The civic agency has terminated employment of 125 of its class IV employees in the health department who were found to be bogus employees.
The civic agency is now planning to file an FIR against them. The civic agency has said that these employees were on its pay roll for over eight years.
“Irregularities in the employment records of 225 employees of the health department came to light in 2000. During preliminary investigation it was found these employees had been hired by an upper divisional clerk against whom a vigilance enquiry is still being carried out,” said Mayor Kanwar Sain.
Sain said their employment was terminated in 2006. But around 125 of these employees approached the high court.
“The court had asked us to reinstate these employees and go through their employments records again. During investigation it was found they fake employment letters and show cause notice for termination of their services were issued to them recently,” said Sain.
Officials further said that more such cases are likely to come forward during the ongoing investigation of the ‘bogus employees scam.’
“The bogus employees in MCD are usually those people who came to us as transfer cases. Most of them used a fake transfer letter to gain employment with MCD. Why their records were not checked earlier is something that we are looking into now in our investigation. A final report in this matter will be submitted soon,” said a senior MCD official.
The officials said these employees were working in MCD hospitals and dispensaries.
The fact-finding committee of the civic agency that was constituted by the civic body to investigate the ‘missing’ 22,853 employees, who did not exist in reality, had found that a number of people with the same name have opened various bank accounts. A final report in this regard will be tabled within 15 days.
Initial investigation had revealed hundreds of MCD employees with the same name had opened bank accounts.
