The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to conduct medical examination on those employees who claimed they could not register for the biometric system because of diabetes.
This decision came a day after HT reported 6,000 employees had not registered for the system that was introduced to ensure punctuality and regularity of MCD staff.
“We will subject those officials for medical examination who report non-registration of attendance under bio-metric system due to diabetes,” said Deep Mathur, director press and information, MCD. “We have consulted medical experts of different disciplines of MCD hospitals who have confirmed that the fingerprints of the persons having diabetes do not wear off.”
The civic agency also claimed that there was no possibility of non-registration of their attendance through biometric system of attendance.
“In case any employee comes out with this reason for non-registration, he will be referred to the medical board for examination for verification,” he said.
The civic agency said apart from keeping track of attendance through biometric system, the MCD is also maintaining parallel system of recording attendance through manual means.
The civic agency is also planning to bring its 24,682 educational staff under the system.
The biometric system was implemented to ensure punctuality and regularity of staff.
