A simple argument over playing loud music at a pre-wedding bash snowballed into a violent clash between two groups, leading to the death of the groom's brother at Jahangirpuri in northwest Delhi on Saturday night.

Police said the incident took place during a celebration a day ahead of the wedding, which was scheduled for Sunday. A neighbour had a problem with the loud music and after a heated argument opened fire at the groom’s family members.

“Sajid’s, 26, marriage was scheduled on Sunday and to celebrate the occasion, a DJ party was going at his residence in H block, Jehangirpuri. Soon after midnight, his neighbour — Sahibul, 25 — and his three brothers barged into the house and started shouting at Sajid and his family members,” a senior police officer said.

Police said Sahibul first asked Sajid to stop the music but the argument turned violent.

“As per eyewitnesses' statement, 3-4 rounds of bullets were fired. One hit Saajan, Sajid's brother and another hit Dilshad, 50, Saajan's father. During the scuffle, one bullet also hit Sahibul. All of them were rushed to a nearby hospital where Saajan was declared brought dead,” the officer added.

Dilshad was hit on his chest and Sahibul’s on his shoulder. Both were out of danger.

Police said both the accused and victim were scrap dealers. Sahibul will be arrested after he is discharged from hospital while his three brothers are absconding.

“They used two country-made pistols. Sahibul's brothers have been identified and teams have been sent to nab them,” the officer added.

A case has been registered at the Jehangirpuri police station and investigations are on.
