The family members have accused that the youth was forced to run extra rounds and the delay in providing medical treatment led to his death.

Pavnish Panwar (17), a student of Tulsi Ram Maheshwari Senior Secondary School in Modinagar, collapsed during a warm-up session before the board examination for physical education started and died on way to the hospital, police said.

“After some rounds of run conducted by the sports teachers of the school, the boy fainted and could not recover,” said Ravinder Chaudhary, Panwar's father. “He was forced to run extra rounds even though he complained to teachers about pain in his chest.”

He said there was delay of around an hour in providing medical treatment. “Laxity on the part of the school authorities led to his death,” he said.

The school officials denied the family’s allegations and said the boy could have been under physical stress as he had attended the National Defence Academy’s physical examination a couple of days ago.

“The incident happened during a warm up session and just before the CBSE appointed external examiner could arrive. None of the teachers forced the child to go beyond the limit and he was rushed to Jeevan Hospital within 15-20 minutes and the family was immediately informed,” said Nirmala Dubey, the school’s director. “It is just an accident.”

Sports teachers, Narendra Kumar and Omkar Singh Rathi, were detained. Another teacher Shailender Rathi was absconding, police said.

“We have registered an FIR on family's complaint,” said M.M. Baig said, SP (Rural).
