A student of a government school slashed and injured his junior with a sharp weapon on being refused money he needed to buy a movie ticket, said police.

Moninder (name changed), 19, a Class XII student at Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, Sector 2, RK Puram, kept the weapon in his bag and came to school with a plan to attack Class X student Sujit (name changed), police said. The school authorities couldn’t be contacted for their comment. Moninder’s family was also unreachable.

Sujit said Moninder regularly extorted money from students but he never thought the ‘nuisance’ would turn so frightening. “He slashed my arm, neck and chest eight times with a knife,” Sujit said.

Police said Sujit sustained minor injuries and was discharged after basic treatment. “We have arrested Moninder on charges of injuring a person with sharp object. The assault weapon has not been identified as yet,” said Shalini Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Nursing his wounds, Sujit was in great pain making sense of what happened at school. “It was a normal day. On Friday Moninder had asked me for some money to fund his outing but I refused. He extorts money from everyone on some pretext or the other. It is unfair and the school authorities should take action against him,” he said.

Sujit paid dearly for his 'bold' move. Moninder allegedly came straight to his classroom at about 10.10 a.m. and dragged him out till the main gate. “He attacked me and fled from the main gate. I could barely understand while it all happened right in full public view,” said Sujit.
